Bio

Dr. Carney's lab develops new platforms for early-stage cancer diagnosis and therapeutics by applying extracellular vesicles (EVs). Diagnostic applications include building cutting-edge Raman spectroscopy and surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) platforms to detect early signs of cancer in circulating biofluids. Therapeutic applications focus on the use of EVs as next-generation drug delivery vehicles. A theme connecting all research is the investigation of the broad heterogeneity of EVs across single vesicles, which could be exploited to build more accurate diagnostics, as well as more potent therapeutics.
