Congrats Dr. Mizenko!
Rachel Mizenko successfully defended her thesis titled, "EV heterogeneity: an essential feature for intercellular communication in health and disease and an underutilized resource in the clinic."
We are so proud of DR Mizenko! As one of the first of two graduate students, Rachel was a fundamental pillar of the Carney Lab since its inception. She published several key findings during her nearly 6 years in the lab, and was instrumental in securing some of the lab's early funding. From 2021-2024 she was awarded her own prestigious NIH F31 fellowship from NINDS to take advantage of EV heterogeneity to improve their potential as drug delivery vehicles.
Rachel was a kind and patient mentor to all who joined the lab. After polling the group, what we loved most about Rachel was her upbeat positive energy and easy laugh, limitless patience to share her expertise, unrelenting curiosity, and genuine kindness.
We can't wait to see what amazing things Dr. Mizenko will accomplish next. She is off to Northwestern University Chemical and Biological Engineering Department for a postdoctoral position to continue her investigations into EVs!
